Mom, I want to hang glide

Caution: New experiences ahead

As I was looking over the articles for this month’s issue, I noticed a photo of our editor tandem hang gliding. I stared at the photo for several minutes before my oldest son sat beside me and said, “Mom, I want to do that.” I panicked. I immediately saw higher insurance premiums, trips to an orthopedist for broken bones and several other hurdles I wanted to put in his way. He nudged me twice and asked when can we go, what was it, where is it and all the other questions a young mind would ask after expressing interest. It is my responsibility as a parent to have him heed caution as much as it is to have him undertake new experiences.

For the last 33 days, MOSAIC Magazine has been my hang-gliding experience. I’m sure others would have had me heed caution in pursing this endeavor, but the journey has been so rewarding. In the last few weeks our phones have rung, emails are steady and social media is alive with amazing story ideas, comments and questions about how people can become a part of MOSAIC. Every phone call leads to two ideas, each chance meeting prompts another and the wind keeps blowing, allowing the hang-gliding experience to last.

In this issue, I’ve heard of some places I never thought to go and food I didn’t think I’d want to try. This issue has urged me to step out of my comfort zone and venture into less-than-familiar territory. I hope this issue of travel and food inspires you to step out of your comfort zone.

As for my son, his hang-gliding experience is on hold. However, I know I’ve stirred his desire for new areas of exploration and adventure, and I’m ready.

In wherever your travels may lead you, be safe, have fun and enjoy the wind beneath you.

Yours truly,

Tasha
