The path to a healthier lifestyle is well traveled but can still be quite scary. Brian Dillahunt is using his experience to pave the way for others through his blog, the Brian Dillahunt journey.
Dillahunt’s weight-loss trek began in February 2012 following previous failed attempts at shaping up. After Dillahunt’s doctor informed him that he was at risk for developing type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, it was clear that something had to change. One year later, the 6-foot-2-inch Dillahunt has lost 94 pounds.

“Today is a special day in my journey,” Dillahunt posted on his blog on Feb. 9. “On today February 7, 2013 it is the first time in 11 years that I’ve been under 300 pounds!”
Of his weight loss – fueled by a total dietary makeover and participating in activities such as a half-marathon – Dillahunt told Mosaic, “My main goal is to be healthy,” and it certainly seems he is well on his way.
“My family is a big driving force for me. My mother was very sick and I remembered taking care of her in her dying years. I vowed to never have to put my family through that if I could help it,” Dillahunt shares.
When it comes to weight loss, many of us often focus on the numbers on a scale, so it’s important to remember that progress can be measured in other ways. Dillahunt takes into account the inches that he loses as well as his improved quality of life.
Eventually, Dillahunt says, everyone comes to a point in the weight-loss journey when it’s hard to determine how much longer it will take to attain a goal and thoughts of giving up begin to surface. Dillahunt has hit those lows more than once and assures his blog readers that they are temporary.
Aside from Dillahunt’s blog, a multitude of online resources can assist those who are determined to lose weight and improve their health. Among the websites that Dillahunt recommends are www.livestrong.com, www.menshealth.com and www.runnersworld.com.
Whether you are just thinking about losing weight or you’ve already taken a few steps in that direction, there is something to be gained from reading Dillahunt’s blog. In addition to his blog, you can follow Dillahunt via twitter @bdilla40.
Mosaic urges everyone to consult a medical professional before altering his or her diet or launching an exercise program. Best of luck to all on your healthy-lifestyle quest!
